Gedi Ruins. A step back into a lost Swahili city. Located in the depths of the Arabuko Sokoke Forest, Gedi is the haunting ruins of a 13th-century town complete with stone houses, a palace, a mosque, and tombs, all swallowed by jungle. A local guide is essential to bring the history to life, explaining the sophisticated trade-based society that mysteriously abandoned the site. The atmosphere is cool, shaded, and slightly eerie, fascinating for history lovers and a good complement to the beach-and-ocean routine.

Watamu Marine Park & Turtle Watch. Considered the best snorkeling spot on the North Coast. The marine park has several pristine coral reefs close to shore. A boat takes you to spots like Blue Lagoon or Turtle areas, where you're almost guaranteed to snorkel alongside graceful green sea turtles as they feed on seagrass. The coral health is better protected here than in Malindi. The trip often includes a visit to a starfish sandbank. It's a must-do for marine life enthusiasts and is suitable for all snorkeling levels.
Mida Creek Kayaking & Birdwatching. A peaceful, magical escape from the ocean. Mida Creek is a vast, calm tidal inlet fringed by mangroves. You paddle silent kayaks through narrow mangrove channels at high tide, with your guide pointing out birdlife like kingfishers, herons, and ospreys. You may visit a crab sanctuary or the Mida Creek Boardwalk, a 260m walkway through the mangrove canopy leading to a bird hide. It's serene, educational, and showcases the delicate coastal ecosystem beyond the beach.
