JANUARY – MARCH
Tanzania – Serengeti National Park
January – Is the calving season in the Ndutu Area, where the newborn wildebeests are brought to life; facilitating the stunning Great Migration – it all starts here!
Kenya – Masai Mara National Reserve
February – Is the perfect for birding enthusiasts; a time when migratory birds take over.
Tanzania – Ngorongoro Crater
March – This comes with opportunities for spotting newborn animals, with fewer visitors which makes for a laidback experience and attention to detail. In addition; the landscape is green and flowery and this is the best time for birdwatching. June – October is peak and relatively dry but this period is challenged by visitor crowds.
APRIL – JUNE
Zimbabwe – Victoria Falls
April – This is the time when the falls are at their most spectacular! The falls are at their fullest, with the most impressive volume of flowing water. It is during this time at full moon when the mist from the waterfall creates a lunar rainbow, which is perfect for stunning photography.
Madagascar – Andasibe-Mantadia National Park
May – It is a dry season, and the perfect time for wildlife viewing and adventure hikes/walks.
Zambia – Lower Zambezi National Park
May – Is the time when the vegetation is lush and it is a perfect time for birdwatching.
Botswana – Chobe National Park
May – Is a dry season and the best time to visit Chobe National Park. It is a perfect time to spot numerous wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, lions, and leopards taking advantage of the dry conditions and moderate temperatures, along the Chobe River. Do not forget to spice up your experience with boat cruise; in the morning or at sunset.
Tanzania – Serengeti National Park
June – The Serengeti Plains can be best explored in the dry month(s).
June is the best of all; with sparse vegetation which makes it easier to witness the Great Migration and spot more wildlife along the Mara River.
Namibia – Sossusvlei
June – Is the perfect time to visit; it has comfortable weather, fewer crowds and clear air which favors outdoor adventures.
JULY – SEPTEMBER
Kenya – Masai Mara National Reserve
July – During this dry month, the migratory wildebeests are fully resident in the Masai Mara, and the chances of witnessing the migration are high: This is the time when the wildebeests are mating. However, this is the busiest time with strong winds blowing across the reserve.
Zimbabwe – Victoria Falls
July – This time is best for mostly adventure activities, when the daytime weather is mild with great views and relatively lower water levels, which favor fun activities such as white-water rafting, bungee jumping, swimming in the Devil’s pool and the bridge slide.
South Africa – Kruger National Park
August – Kruger National Park best explored in the winter period, and August stands out! It is the time (with cooler temperatures), when the vegetation is sparse and favors wildlife viewing and all walking safaris.
Uganda/Rwanda – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest/Volcanoes National Park/Kibale or Nyungwe National Park
August – Much as these primate parks can be explored all year: Dry seasons make for the best gorilla/chimpanzee experience, a time when the forest is relatively dry and easy to penetrate. However, gorilla/chimp permits sell out swiftly and require advance bookings.
Botswana – Okavango Delta
August – This is the dry season when the floodwaters are high, thus an excellent wildlife viewing as the animals concentrate around the water sources to water and cool off. A Mokoro trip is worth taking during this month.
Namibia – Etosha National Park
September – Also best explored in the dry season: In this month, the animals are most concentrated around waterholes due to the lack of readily available water, making for the best wildlife viewing. Accommodation and other services will require advance bookings since this is peak season in Namibia.
Zambia – Lower Zambezi National Park
September – Sport fishing can be best done around this time, when the Zambezi water is clearest.
OCTOBER – DECEMBER
Zambia – Lower Zambezi National Park
October – During this time, wildlife spotting is easier since the animals often gather around the Zambezi River.
South Africa – Addo Elephant National Park
October – Addo is best explored in the dry season when the animals tend to gather around waterholes to water and cool-off, thus better wildlife sightings – especially the elephants.
Namibia – Sossusvlei
November – High season, but very good for wildlife watching and bird-spotting.
Botswana – Okavango Delta
November – This period is partially rainy, but it comes with fantastic bird watching opportunities as migratory birds arrive to use the delta for breeding.
Madagascar – Andasibe-Mantadia National Park
December – One of the wettest, but the best suitable time for bird watching excursions.
Uganda – Rwenzori Mountains National Park
December – During this time the weather is relatively stable with mild to warm days and cold nights. Making it a perfect time to climb/hike/trek in Rwenzori Mountains National Park, up to Margherita and/or Stanley Peak. December features clear skies, spectacular views, cooler temperatures, clear trails and optimal trekking conditions.
