Overview

Uganda is endowed with various primates inclusive of half of the world's Mountain Gorillas, hardly encountered elsewhere in the world except in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This Uganda safari will offer you an up-close experience of iconic primates (Mountain Gorillas, Chimpanzees and Golden Monkeys). The primate experience is blended with cultural visits, guided nature walks/hikes with a boat cruise on the scenic Lake Mutanda amid stunning views.

Journey Time: Approx. 06 Hours

The pickup location is flexible (From your hotel in Kampala/Entebbe Town or from Entebbe Airport). Note: We strongly recommend an early arrival flight. Be received by our dedicated safari guide; have a briefing for the trip and immediately depart for Kibale National Park (Lunch arranged at a restaurant). Upon arrival at Kibale, start off with a cultural experience.

Planned Activity: Bigodi Community Tour – Your cultural engagements include; Bigodi coffee tasting, Taste banana beer and traditional vodka, explore traditional arts and crafts, Energetic Cultural dances – Best way to bond with the locals! Thereafter, proceed to the lodge and check-in to stay at leisure.

Pickup Time: 07:00AM. Early Breakfast at the lodge and transfer to the park for briefing.Chimpanzee Tracking Experience (Kibale Forest)Briefing starts at 08:00AM with other park formalities observed before the trek. Kibale’s most popular activity is the Kanyanchu Primate Walk, with the most sought after on this trail being the chimps. Kanyanchu’s chimps have been tracked since 1993 and the chances of locating them are excellent! (Due to permit availability, an alternative sector is Buraiga). Your guided primate trek starts not later than 08:30AM, lasting between 1 – 2 Hours once you encounter the chimps in their natural habitat. The habituated groups are accustomed to human presence; some have been tracked for over 25 years, and the chances of locating stand at 95%. The biodiversity of Kibale comprises other wildlife – over 120 mammals, with several primates like baboons, Ugandan Mangabey, red-tailed monkeys, de brazza’s monkey, colobus monkeys, blue monkeys commonly spotted, with 370 bird species including 23 Albertine Rift endemics; Nahan’s francolin, Cassin’s spinetail, blue headed bee-eater and low-land masked apalis: Wear hiking boots, trousers, and gloves and drinking water.
After the trek, enjoy a traditional lunch at Tinka’s Homestead – Bigodi Community.

Afternoon Activity: Top of the World Hike The hike begins from Lake Nyabikere Crater (Nyabikere means frogs), amid stunning views at sunrise! During the trek learn about the formation of crater lakes, and the traditional legends that revolve around the crater lakes. Hike across lush gardens, banana, and coffee with tea plantations gazing at the views of crater lakes, Fort Portal, Kibale Forest and the Rwenzori Ranges.

After your nature experience, return to the lodge and refresh for dinner.

Pickup Time: 08:00AM. Breakfast at the lodge and check-out. As planned, depart Kibale for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Lunch arranged at a restaurant). Arrival at Bwindi is foreseen late afternoon, to the lodge and check-in to refresh and be at leisure.

Pickup Time: 06:30AM. After an early breakfast you will be handed a lunchbox and mineral water to put in your backpack, then proceed to the park office.

Bwindi Gorilla Tracking Experience – Upon completing your park formalities, embark onto a once in a life time experience of tracking the endangered mountain gorillas. Once you meet the gorillas on a tracking adventure, you will be allowed between 1 to 2 hours watching and photographing the gentle apes including the silverback. This is perhaps one of the most breath-taking wildlife experience on earth!!!  On close encounter, you will stare at each other blankly not knowing who to break the long silence first. These massive primates are extremely rare, with less than 700 living today, but you will get within meters for stunning photography, but considering all the necessary safety measures. Gorilla tracking may be fairly strenuous lasting approximately an hour at a relatively high altitude. During the trek, your ranger guide will identify a safe spot for your picnic lunch after which you will proceed with the trek or back to the lodge (Subject to change). Wear hiking shoes, face mask, trousers, hand gloves, long-sleeves, insect repellent with water.

After gorilla tracking, return to the lodge – check-in and enjoy the rest of this afternoon at your free time. Best time for personal engagements.

Luxury: Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge – or similar Meal Plan: Full Board (Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch)

Journey time: Approx. 02 Hours

Pickup Time: 06:00AM. Early breakfast at the lodge and check-out. Thereafter travel to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for the golden monkey trek. After briefing, your golden monkey trek starts at 08:00AM; through the rain forest to reach the golden monkeys; on a moderate hike since the golden monkeys stay in the relatively lower bamboo areas of the forest. Spend approx. 1–2 hours with the golden primates and take pictures as you loosely observe their behaviour. You are reminded to wear waterproof hiking boots, long sleeved shirt, trousers, with a backpack for your lunchbox and documents. Do not forget an insect repellent, drinking water, a face mask, and a walking stick.

Optional Activity: Head to Cheba’s Point for Lake Mutanda Boat Cruise. Enjoy a scenic 2-hour boat cruise on Lake Mutanda, exploring its various islands. Accompanied by a local guide; get to explore more about the surrounding communities, spot the birds, and otters with splendid views of the volcanoes sheltering the lake. Visit Lake Mutanda’s iconic Punishment Island to explore its traditional history. From the boat meet your guide and head to Chameleon Hill Lodge – arrive for a hot lunch (subject to change).

Later on transfer back to the lodge and stay at leisure. Dinner included.

Pickup Time: 07:00AM. Start with an early breakfast at the lodge, and check-out. Depending on how you planned your onward flight; you may choose to depart through Kigali or Entebbe Airport, with the below options (The group to choose one option only).  

Transfer Option 01: Transfer by road to Entebbe Airport – Arriving to check-in and connect to your outbound flight; a late departure flight is recommended (lunch at a restaurant). 

Transfer Option 02: Transfer to Kigali Airport via Cyanika Border and connect to your outbound flight (packed lunch from the lodge).
