Overview

Your Gorilla safari starts with arrival through Kigali for the night; and transfer to Volcanoes National Park for an adventurous golden monkey trek. Continue further across the border to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Uganda), on a 4 – 5 hours’ scenic journey.  Go Gorilla tracking and enjoy a magical hour with the gentle apes. Spice up your gorilla experience with a cultural visit full of dances, shopping locally made crafts and arts, as well as history and culture of the Batwa – Also visit and explore Lake Bunyonyi.

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet our safari guide at the waiting area. He will offer luggage assistance and then conduct your transfer to the hotel within Kigali.

Start by exploring the highlights of Kigali City: This Kigali excursion is the best way to explore Rwanda’s hilly capital and largest city. Kigali has an all-year-round moderate climate allowing you to visit any time of the year, and ranks among Africa’s cleanest and safest cities. On your city tour visit Kigali’s historical and cultural sites: places such as Kandt House – a former residence of Dr Richard Kandt. Head to Mount Kigali for splendid views of the city, to the Natural History Museum. Tour the Presidential Palace Museum. Included is a stopover at Kigali Genocide Memorial Site.

En-route to Volcanoes – Stopover Rwanda’s Twin Lakes (Burera and Ruhondo), for a photo moment and sightseeing (Lunch is at a restaurant). Evening Activity: Iby’Iwacu Cultural Experience Exploring Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village is an opportunity to meet the locals. You will get to learn about the traditional lifestyle and Rwanda’s cultural heritage. Be engaged in cultural activities: guided community walks, visit the King’s house replica, traditional entertainment (“Intore dance” and cultural songs), listen to traditional folktales, and observe a banana beer and spirit brewing locally. Get to the lodge late evening, to refresh for dinner at leisure.

Pickup Time: 06:00AM. Early breakfast at the lodge and transfer to the park’s Kinigi Office for registration and briefing before the trek.

Volcanoes Golden Monkey Trek:  After briefing at 07:30AM, feel free to hire a porter for your backpack; the trek is set to commence at 08:00AM. Golden Monkeys are an endangered species; and are outstanding due to their goldish-orange fur, especially on the back areas – making them a uniquely magnificent primate species on earth! Today you will be visiting any of the two habituated troops of golden monkeys in Volcanoes, to explore their unique traits. Upon encounter, you will be required to follow their lead around the forest since they keep navigating the forest from tree to tree. Spend magical hour with the golden monkeys; taking your best camera shots and observing their behaviour up-close. What to pack for the trek; hiking boots, trousers, an insect repellent, Rain coat, hat, long-sleeved shirt, and drinking water. 

Thereafter, travel across the border to Bwindi with lunch at a restaurant. Arrive late afternoon to check-in and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner at the lodge.

Pickup Time: 06:30AM.

After an early breakfast you will be handed a lunchbox and mineral water to put in your backpack, then proceed to the park office.

Bwindi Gorilla Tracking Experience – Upon completing your park formalities, you will embark onto a once in a life time experience of tracking the endangered mountain gorillas. Once you meet the gorillas on a tracking adventure, you will be allowed between 1 to 2 hours watching and photographing the gentle apes including the silverback. This is perhaps one of the most breath-taking wildlife experiences on earth!!! Upon close encounter, you will stare at each other blankly not knowing who to break the long silence first. These massive primates are extremely rare, with less than 700 living today, but you will get within meters for stunning photography, but considering all the necessary safety measures. Gorilla tracking may be fairly strenuous lasting approximately an hour at a relatively high altitude. During the trek, your ranger guide will identify a safe spot for your picnic lunch after which you will proceed with the trek or back to the lodge (Subject to change).  Do not forget your camera, hiking shoes, gators, facemask, trousers and long sleeves, hand gloves and drinking water.

After gorilla tracking (with a picnic lunchbox per person): Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for a scenic hike and nature experience (subject to change).

Planned Activity: Bunyonyi “Top of the World” Hike – Getting to Bunyonyi’s Top of the World, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of all the lake’s 29 Islands. On the same walk explore the areas’ local lifestyle amid cool views until sunset.

Pick-up time: 07:00AM. Early breakfast and check-out to depart Bunyonyi for Kigali. Start off with Lake Bunyonyi Canoe Ride Explore the stunning Islands of Bunyonyi aboard a traditional Dugout Canoe, through the lake’s 29 Islands. Be amazed at the natural beauty of Bunyonyi from a different point of view.  

Thereafter, travel across the border back to Kigali; continue to Kigali Airport to check-in for your departure flight. Evening departure recommended (06:00pm onwards).
