En-route; Stopover at Sezibwa Falls (A Buganda Cultural Heritage Site): Not your normal beautiful waterfalls, the story behind the formation Sezibwa Falls is more like magic. It’s believed that a woman who was expecting twins instead delivered them inform of water, the two twin rivers that flow just below the waterfall are “Sezibwa and Bwanda”. Traditional pilgrimages are conducted here in belief that it possesses supernatural powers and visitors sometimes grass, stones or anything inform of a sacrifice, this is believed to bring good luck. Besides this intriguing history, the splendid views and sounds of the waterfall will give you Goosebumps. Activities to explore include; Rock climbing, self-guided nature walks and bird watching.
Proceed to Mabira Eco Forest for a 3-hour Guided Nature Walk: Heard of the famous Amazon forests? Mabira used to be the Amazon of Uganda, it was the largest natural forest in Uganda but that’s in doubt now because it has been subjected to logging for a while now. It covers an area of 300 sq.km, located in Buikwe district between Lugazi and Jinja City and has been protected as a forest reserve since 1932. However Mabira is never short on adventures, with over 300 tree and bird species as well as the playful monkeys you see as you drive through the forest that are always a joy to watch. At Mabira Forest enjoy a 2-3 hour Guided nature walk. Explore the natural beauty of this tropical forest as our guide leads you into an array of primates, the various tree species and their unique importance, as well as sighting a variety of birds resident in the forest.
Visit Griffin Falls Camp; for The Super Skyway Zip-line – This canopy zip line will keep you high up in the trees just like monkeys. Go soaring between the tallest trees in the rainforest, in company of expert Sky Captains, leading you through primeval trees high up across a network of 5 zip-lines – 250m traversing River Musamya. Enjoy splendid views of the forest canopy, primates, birds and griffin falls. Included is a local lunch at a restaurant in Jinja (subject to change).
Continue to Jinja for the Source of the Nile Cruise – There could be fewer better ways than ending your trip around Uganda’s adventure capital with watching the sun set from your boat cruise on the Nile as you have a taste of Uganda’s popular “Nile Special Beer”. Not forgetting all the scenic views and bird watching (birds such as kingfishers, cormorants, African fish eagle, egrets, weaver birds) You will as well visit Mahatma Ghandi monument; Built in memory of former Indian leader Mahatma Ghandi widely known as the world’s apostle of peace; as well as sightseeing Speke Monument; built in honour of John Hannington Speke, an explorer who discovered the source of the Nile in 1856. It accommodates about 7000 vendors selling a variety of products such as fresh food and fruits, as well as locally crafted attire.
