Trip Overview

Destination: Maun – Okavango Delta – Chobe National Park – Victoria Falls

Our guests were welcomed with a Boat Cruise on River Thamalakane, and proceeded to explore the Okavango Delta (World Heritage Site); the world’s largest inland delta. They took a Mokoro ride to the magnificent Okavango River which sprawls out over the dry sands of the Kalahari Desert forming this flourishing waterlogged oasis featuring countless meandering waterways and crystal-clear lagoons. The adventure extended to Botswana’s Khwai and Chobe National Park for a true African wilderness experience!  After another boat cruise along the iconic Chobe River, they visited Zimbabwe’s iconic Victoria Falls and participated in some adrenaline activities.

Trip Itinerary

Journey Time: Approx. 30 Minutes   

Upon arrival at Maun Int. Airport; be warmly received by our safari guide, have a briefing and transfer to the lodge near Thamalakane River. Arrive and check-in to refresh and rest – dinner is arranged at the lodge.

Planned Activity: Thamalakane Boat Cruise – At sunset! – subject to change

Overnight: Thamalakane River Lodge  

Meal Plan: Half Board (Dinner and Breakfast)

Have breakfast at the lodge and get set for the day’s long adventure.

Transfer to the Mokoro Station from where you will embark onto a Mokoro and setoff to the Magical Okavango Delta (you will have a picnic in the wilderness).

The Okavango Delta (World Heritage Site) is the world’s largest inland Delta, stretching over an impressive 15000 square kilometres. It sprawls out over the dry sands of Kalahari Desert forming this flourishing waterlogged oasis featuring countless meandering waterways and crystal clear lagoons studded with water lilies, as well as fertile floodplains and reeded islands inhabited with abundant wildlife. At Okavango you find a range of exciting activities; game viewing, fishing, bird watching or taking an authentic guided Mokoro excursion through this wetland paradise in a traditional dugout canoe. Expect to see: lions, rhino, leopard, giraffe, hippos, elephants, crocodiles and various birds.

The adventures to explore include:

Enjoy a Mokoro Ride (Traditional dugout canoe): Spend more time in a Mokoro, gliding through the floodplains and channels; taking you to any of the many islands, taking in the magnificent scenery and light as well as the abundant game and bird-life. At fall of dusk sail on a Mokoro back to Crocodile Camp. Arrive and refresh for dinner at leisure: Dinner is spiced with a cultural experience; showcasing cultural dances with a taste of Botswana’s local cuisines and beverage.

Overnight: Thamalakane River Lodge  

Meal Plan: Full Board (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Have breakfast at the lodge and check-out. Thereafter transfer to Khwai between Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park.

Be treated to a true African wilderness experience! Your two days’ stay offers game drives and more wilderness experiences.

Khwai Wilderness Safari Experience – Situated on the outskirts of the beautifully preserved Moremi Game Reserve, is a wildlife-prolific and varied ecosystem which provides a patchwork of lagoons, shallow flooded pans, open grass plains and woodland forests. The Khwai ecosystem is without doubt one of the most scenic places in Botswana! Khwai is a predator-rich area; with the best African Safari experience. There are high concentrations of predators and a huge population of wild dogs. Wildlife here is much the same as the Moremi Game Reserve. Furthermore, the magnificent Khwai River is a hub for some of the most outstanding wildlife viewing both on the Moremi and in the Khwai ecosystem. Animal species to be sighted include elephant, buffalo, zebra, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, giraffe, eland, sable, hippo, hyena and various other nocturnal species.

Enjoy a Sundowner in the wilderness; the best moment to wonder at true African sunset as you sip-in a few African brands and savoury snacks.

Spend leisurely evenings at the lodge amid splendid sunset views.

Meal Plan: Full Board (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Pickup Time: 06:30AM. Early breakfast and check-out, to be dropped off at the airstrip for your domestic flight to Kasane near Chobe National Park. Arrive briefly at the lodge to drop-in your bags, and go for a Boat Cruise.

Planned Afternoon Activity: Chobe River Boat Cruise – Chobe National Park is best-known for its large herds of elephant that frequent the Chobe River on a daily basis. In the dry season an estimate of up to 85,000 elephants can be dispersed within the Chobe National Park, and the majority sighted along the river. The Park has lions, leopard, buffalo and hundreds of antelopes like sable, puku, kudu, eland, roan and many to see at sunset. The river is filled with big pods of hippos and some of the biggest crocodiles in Africa. The chance of seeing wildlife on the islands and riverbanks is high, as is the likelihood of spoting numerous birds, and crocodiles.

Return to the lodge later to refresh and recuperate – dinner included.

Overnight: River View Lodge

Meal Plan: Full Board (Dinner and Breakfast)

Pickup Time: 06:30AM. Your day starts with an early breakfast at the lodge and depart for a game drive at sunrise. (You will have lunch or dinner at the lodge – HB)

Chobe Guided Game Drive – On your safari in Chobe National Park,catch sight of huge herds of elephants as they swim across the water, as well as buffalo, lion, crocodile, lechwe, puku, giraffe, zebra, sable, kudu and the occasional leopard as they gather to quench their thirst at watering holes. Chobe National Park has a huge 450 bird species to be sighted. Expect to spot birds such as African skimmers, rock pratincoles, the African fin foot, cattle egrets, fish eagles, open-billed storks, lesser-striped swallows, and pied kingfishers either by binoculars or with your own naked eye.

Included – Another afternoon Boat Cruise on River Chobe; thus offering a detailed exploration of the river with its scenery and varied wildlife.

Journey time: Approx. 1 hour

Have breakfast at the lodge and check-out. Thereafter be transferred across the border to Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls. Arrive and visit the falls with a later lunch – client’s own cost.

Today’s Planned activities:

Guided tour of the Magical Victoria Falls –This 2 –3-hour adventure offers great views of the Victoria Falls! Explore how the Falls were formed and what local customs and traditions surround them. At Victoria Falls feel free to sample optional activities such as: micro lighting, white water rafting, bungee jumping, and kayaking. Your waterfall excursion is extremely informative and end with a visit to the local crafts centre.

Next is River Zambezi Dinner Cruise (Pure Africa Waterfront) –  Your dinner cruise offers only the magical colours of the Zambezi River at dusk but a truly unique dining experience! Whilst on the boat, enjoy an on-board dinner served as you savour the splendour of the setting sun. Ideal for food and nature lovers wanting it all. Embark from the Pure Africa Waterfront and head off into the evening. After your favourite drink is poured, you’ll be ushered to your set table where a delectable series of dishes freshly prepared on the boat and paired to premium drinks including an authentic Pure Africa house wines are served. Silhouettes of elephants against the sunset and hippos noisily grunting in the distance will most certainly add to the ambience.

Return to the lodge late evening and refresh to rest for the night.

Depending on your flight schedule, you will have breakfast at the lodge and check-out. Thereafter transfer to Victoria Falls Int. Airport to check-in for your departure flight.
